Aku petik kata-kata bekas panglima tentera, Jen (B) Datuk Seri Zaini Mohd Said ”In the ensuing fire fight, he brought down one communist but took three enemy bullets on himself, one nearly splitting his stomach open.
(Dalam satu pertempuran beliau menembak mati seorang komunis tetapi tiga butir lagi peluru musuh mengenai perutnya hingga hampir terburai)
“He poured salt on where the bullet had entered and exited his abdomen and tied his shirt around it to prevent his intestines from spilling out. He then administered a shot of morphine into his arm and another to a ranger injured by an undetected booby trap which had exploded nearby.
“With his pain lessened Kanang continued firing on the enemy until the rest of his company came to his rescue. ”

Seterusnya ia menjadi sejarah.
Saya Tabik kepada kegigihan bekas CO 8 Ranger Lt Kol CA Loone atas usahanya sehingga Kanang di anugerahkan PGB. Saya sendiri mengiring Lt Kol Loone mengadap PTD Gen Zain Hashim.
Lt Kol Yusof Razak (B)
Bekas OC D Coy, 8 Ranger
With Tan Sri Gen Ghazali leaving we got Tan Sri Gen Zain Hashim. There was never a dull moment. We had contacts, got ambushed, got surrenders, captiors, unearted food stuff buried. We killed and got killed. And also a rare drowning. Tan Sri Zain Hashim spend a lot of time with us. We would like to go up stream in a long boat and fly into the ulu. In 1 case we brought a load of military attachees for an overnight stay in a long house.
When Anwar Basha was ambushed, we were in Song but could not do anything as it was late in the evening. Hats off to the pilot who airlifted him at night. I was then promoted and was moved to Terendak. We had 2 contacts with the cts at Thai border. Goh Ah Bah and Shahbani joined me and both were promoted to BGS.
While in Guber the present Agongs father who was then Sultan of Pahang and the chief of Turkey arm forces chief visited me.
In the late 70ties we were task to walk from Jeli in kelantan to a rubber estate in perak. All those who went ahead of us lost their way and had to be escosted out. My men and i did it in 6 days plus and the GOC disqualified us on technical ground and the press was not allowed to ask any question. 2 officers were sent to my office and 20 mins later they left as we had follow the SOP. No enquiry and no court martialed but we were not reinstated. I was then posted to Rascom as SO1 ops. I left in 1985, the communist surrendered in 1989.
Tan sri zain visited Terendak before i left for Sibu. 3 Div ask me to get ready for his visit. He turned it down saying i know the man well. So he was sent to 3 Rjrs. I am now 81 going on to 82. Few yrs back i heard 1 Rjr to be downgraded to a ceremonial batalion. I think that was the final nail on the coffin. By the way i still havent got my PJM. If our admin can help i would like to collect it in Sabah. The only person who is still interested in my PJM is my 27 yr old grand daughter working in Japan. She told the grandma she is badly shaken up by the earth quake there.
Cheers guys no offence to anyone.

7 Jan 2024. Col Ainuddin sir, a great reminiscent of 1RRD of its legacies of op successes. Befitting its slogan Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban. We had adopted the Kill or be Killed mentality since we joined Inf ( RRD). We’re 2nd to none insofar esprit de corps, fighting spirit , comradeship in RRD, BGD Ariffin Yaacob can vouched on that. 1 RRD, 3 RRD, 4 RRD n 7 RRD had their ups & downs in kills ( kill or be Killed spirit). Sorry if I left out any other Rgr bns. We always believed we’re second to none . Sad to say 1RRD had been ‘ downgraded ‘ to a ceremonial bn together with 1 RAMD, just by transferring 1 token authentic Coy fm 1 RRD to 6 RRD n converted to 1 RRD. Don’t see the rationale just bcos of the same designation 1. With the recent formation of Black Hackle Club ( BHC), surely ‘ old soldiers never die but fade away’. Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban mates. Cheers🤜🤛

8 Jan 2024. I thought of just being a bystander but at the mentioned of 1RRD and my name i should say something. I was the 9th CO and i handed over the unit to Ainuddin. The last ct killed was during Kol Latiff’s time. The continuous ops was intetesting as we were despatched by train from Tampin to Jerantut amd stayed in the train overnight in the middle of nowhere and RTB the next day as the ops was aborted. We arrived Tampin at around midday and not enough tpt avail. The CO decided to travel shotgun back to Terendak. When i was transfered on promotion to 1RRD i was rather apprehensive of the unit with it’s record of success even though i’ve been involved in contact with the Indons when i was in SIR. But things turn out for the better as we were the best unit in 1Bgd. Alas my command was a very short one. Thank you 1RRD

8 Jan 2024. The last kill, if I am not wrong by the Coy with 2Lt Yoon Kok Chuan as acting OC. The officer was under 2 years attachment from KP. If not wrong again, Lt Col Johan Chin was 2 IC of 1 RGR. Maj Yoon, a one time instructor in SPK (1980-81 ) left as a Major serving in KP ( early retirement). A little history.
