Tun Abdul Razak Visits to 3 Rangers, Sulva Line Camp, Ipoh

This is written by Col Tan Siew Sin (Armour):

Tun Razak made two visits to 3 Renjer at Suvla Line, Ipoh during its formation. The video showed the Bn ready for the Passing – Out Parade. The salute at the Passing Out Parade held on 19 February 1966 was taken by Tun Razak. I attended that Parade then SC’A’ together with one HQ 2 Bde officers. 3 Renjer unlike 1 and 2 Renjer had recruits from all over Malaysia (Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular). Like like the other two Bns, 3 Renjer was also raised by the British through the Commonwealth Relation Office. They paid for the costs of training and equipment for the Bn until it became operational. In the video standing next to Tun Razak was Maj-Gen Abdul Hamid Bidin, CGS. The CO of 3 Renjer, Lt Col David Mackenzie, a graduate of US Staff College and Fort Bennington chose the motto “Follow Me” or “Ikut Saya” for the Bn until replaced by the new motto for the Corps “Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban”. In the video you can also see Col Wellsted standing next to Gen Hamid. Col Wellsted (RE) was Commander HQ Malaysia Renjer Group consisting of 1st, 2nd and 3rd Renjer. He only had one SO3, a Major Macmurtie whom I had a lot of dealings.
